Read MoreLet’s take a detailed look at the representatives of a famous Japanese brand. I am going to test Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT vs Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT, the closed back over ear wireless headphones with a wire option.
Both headphones have a low impedance, 38 vs 47 Ohm, that is great with mobile devices. The circle of the frequency response of SR5BT is wider with its 5Hz-40KHz vs 15Hz-38KHz of M50xBT. The sensitivity here is almost equal, 99 vs 103 dB.
The battery life of both models is quite long, 40 & 38 hours respectively. Both also support AptX.
In general the sound of Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT is very clear and accurate. If we look more detailed, the bass is clean but may seem recessed with some. The mids are there and sound quite natural but if compared to highs and lows they are backstage.
The highs are very bright and even too detailed, which is great for critical listening, but fatiguing for a relaxed one.
The ATH-SR5BT model reproduces every detail of sounds the way they were recorded, so it is balanced, rich and vivid. Bass is not boosted, the mids are emphasized and together with the bright highs it may sound harsh. However that is great for audio monitoring.
Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT is 125 g heavier than SR5BT model, 310 vs 185 g, but it is foldable with swivel lay flat cups and unlike the second. Both have a comfortable adjustable headband with thick, soft padding.
The headphones have an audio cable, a charging cable, and a carry case in a set. The charging time is 7 and 4 hours accordingly. The design of both is quite comfy with the control buttons and in-line control, in-line and built-in microphones.
