Read MoreAudio-Technica and Sennheiser are two pioneers of audio electronics. It will be interesting to compare the headphones Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT vs Sennheiser Momentum 2. Both models are closed back, over ear, with options of wired and wireless use.
With quite a low impedance of 38 and 28 Ohm they are very compatible with mobile devices. The frequency response has not much in difference, 15Hz-28KHz vs 16Hz-22KHz. The sensitivity of Sennheiser Momentum 2 is 21 dB higher than Audio-Technica’s ATH-M50xBT, 99 vs 120 dB.
The battery life of Audio-Technica is much longer, 40 vs 22 hours, however its charging will also take time, 7 hours vs 2 of Sennheiser.
Both headphones have aptX support.
I find the lows of Audio-Technica very tight, still not overpowered. They do not dampen mids and highs. The highs are transparent and detailed. The mids seemed a bit recessed. In general I may call the sound live and real.
Sennheiser Momentum 2 reproduces a very deep bass together with incredible brightness of all other sounds and great transparency at all ranges. I enjoyed every detail of instruments and vocals. Moreover, it provides adjustable active noise cancelling on quite a decent level.
Audio-Technica’s headphones have a thick padding on the headband while Sennheiser lacks it. You may adjust the headband on both headphones. The cups in both are large and tightly padded to fit even large ears comfortably. They are foldable and it is easy to make them more compact to carry with in a case that comes in a set. When we come to the weight, Sennheiser is more than twice lighter, 140 vs 310 g.
