Read MoreAmong hundreds of popular headphones, I have chosen Sennheiser HD 600 vs Audio-Technica ATH-M70x for the comparison. Both of them are over-ear and wired. The difference is that the first device is open back, while the second one is closed back. This feature influences their sound a lot. Let's compare technical characteristics.
They have some features on common, but I offer to start with distinction. The impedance of Sennheiser HD 600 is 300 Ohm which is a lot compared to Audio-Technica ATH-M70x that has 35 Ohm. The mentioned appliances have an identical sensitivity which is 97 dB. The headphones made by Audio-Technica have a frequency response 5 Hz - 40 kHz which is wider than the range of the other device — 12 Hz - 40 kHz.
The open design gives Sennheiser HD 600 a spacious soundstage. The headphones have great separation and that accurately reproduce the detail in high-res audio, especially plugged into an amp.
Audio-Technica ATH-M70x has a lack of bass. Despite being closed-back headphones they have a very decent soundstage. With this device, you will have clear highs and punchy lows.
These headphones are not the best option for traveling as they do not fold. Of course, like most of the over-ear devices, they have an adjustable headband. Comparing their weight, I have not found much difference, as Audio-Technica ATH-M70x vs Sennheiser HD 600 weighs 280 g and the other appliance weighs 260 g.
With these headphones, you can move around your room listening to music, as they have a 300 cm long wire. Another good news is that it is detachable. When you buy the model Audio-Technica ATH-M70x, you get 3 different cables.
