Read MoreLet me introduce you to the comparison Audio-Technica ATH-M20x vs ATH-M40x. They have a lot in common. Both devices are closed back and have an over-ear design. Also, these headphones come with an audio cable.
First, let's compare their impedance. Audio-Technica ATH-M20x has 47 Ohm whilst Audio-Technica ATH-M40x has 35 Ohm. Real audiophiles know that the frequency response matters most, so I offer you to take a look at this feature. The model ATH-M20x works in a range of 15 Hz – 20 kHz, while ATH-M40x has a frequency response from 15 Hz to 24 kHz. Another important technical characteristic is sensitivity. In the first case it is 96 dB and in the second case — 98 dB.
Audio-Technica ATH-M20x has rich and warm tones. Its sound is well-balanced and realistic. The appliance provides slightly distorted highs. These headphones are great for a wide variety of genres.
Audio-Technica ATH-M40x vs ATH-M20x has a pretty decent soundstage but no impressive bass boost. It is worth mentioning that the headphones can be very loud because of the lower bass. Highs are flat here.
Both pairs of headphones leak sound. So, consider that everything you hear in a noisy environment will be partly mixed with other sounds.
Both devices made by Audio-Technica have an adjustable headband. There is quite a big difference between their weight, as ATH-M20x has 190 g and ATH-M40x has 240 g. They fold, therefore can be used for travelling. It is a pity that any of the considered headphones do not have a carry case.
The thick wire that you get with the headphones is 300cm long. It may be a problem for those who are going to walk with the device.
