Read MoreHaving tested Sennheiser HD 600 vs Sennheiser HD 599, first of all, I should point out the incredible sound and build quality of these professional headphones. Being over ear open back headphones they both represent a great choice for critical listening.
As for the technical differences, the impedance is the greatest, that makes 300 vs 50 Ohm in HD 600 vs HD 599. The frequency response is almost equal: 12Hz-38KHz vs 12Hz-40KHz as well as total harmonic distortion of 0.1% and sensitivity of 97 vs 106 dB.
I like the clean treble of Sennheiser HD 600. It is just slightly forward but not strident. Midrange is excellent and stellar. Bass sounds very harmonious with the other ranges.
When I listen to the sound of Sennheiser HD 599 I should admit transparent clarity and brightness of highs and lows, however without exaggeration. They just go ahead the mids, that seem a bit recessed, but does not make the sound muddy. The strong bass has a great impact though the sound stage is not the best point as for the open type of headphones.
Both models are unfoldable. They are really comfy and airy for long listening though the hanging wire makes them not really comfy for active outdoor use, even being detachable. The adjustable headband will allow you to make them fit quite well. Though, the HD 600 headphones fit tighter than HD 599 and may be uncomfortable for long wearing. The first model is just 10 g heavier than the other, 260 vs 250 g.
