Read MoreThis comparison is for those who are trying to choose between on-ear and over-ear headphones. I have compared GRADO SR60e vs Philips SHP9500, the first one of which has an on-ear wearing style, while the other one is over-ear. Speaking of similarities, they are open-back and can be used only with a cable.
Another thing they have in common is impedance which is 32 Ohm in both cases. The sensitivity is also very similar as GRADO SR60e has 100 dB and Philips SHP9500 has 101 dB. The biggest distinction is in the frequency response since the device made by GRADO works in a range of 20 Hz - 20 kHz and the one produced by Philips has a range between 12 Hz and 35 kHz.
The midrange of GRADO SR60e is very clear. The headphones provide open, layered, and airy sound. This combined with the soundstage that open-back headphones are known for lends an extra level of realism to reverb and room sound.
Philips SHP9500 can be described in three terms: open sound, clear detail, and smooth playback. The clarity is impressive, especially with any vocal playback, but at the same time pushing through with that smooth high end.
When it comes to weight, GRADO SR60e is pretty lighter than the other appliance. The weight of the model SR60e is 220 g, whilst Philips SHP9500 has 320 g. Unfortunately, the considered headphones do not fold, but the adjustable headband makes them quite comfortable to wear.
Philips SHP9500 is a pair of headphones with a detachable cable which is 300 cm long. It is a pity but the devices do not have built-in buttons and a microphone.
