Read MoreWhat do you think of a comparison of two pairs of open-back headphones? I have found similarities and differences between AKG K702 vs Beyerdynamic DT 990. These are wired devices which have an over-ear design. Let's see what is special about them.
The most similar feature is sensitivity since Beyerdynamic DT 990 has 96 dB and AKG K702 provides sound with sensitivity 105 dB. The distinction of the frequency response is more notable. The first device works in a range of 5 Hz - 35 kHz and the second one has frequency response 10 Hz - 40 kHz. The impedance of AKG K702 is 62 Ohm, while in the case with the other appliance it can be different, either 80 or 250 Ohm.
The stereo image of AKG K702 is pleasantly wide, with convincing signal dynamics and depth gradation. Overall, the headphones have no peaks or resonances, just neutral sound. The open-backed design and shouty treble of Beyerdynamic DT 990 work together to produce an absolutely amazing sense of depth, imaging, and soundstage.
A well-built adjustable headband is part and parcel of comfortable headphones and both devices in this comparison have such a headband. Unfortunately, they cannot fold but buying Beyerdynamic DT 990 you get a carry case.
If you are looking for a light pair of headphones, the AKG K702 model is a more suitable option, as it weighs 235 g, whilst Beyerdynamic DT 990 has 360 g. Both of the devices cannot be used for making phone calls as they are not equipped with a microphone. They do not have any kind of in-line control as well. The audio cable which you get with Beyerdynamic DT 990 is 300 cm long but it is not detachable.
