Read MoreI would like to show you the comparison of two pairs of open back headphones Philips SHP9500 vs Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X. They come with a long audio cable and have an over-ear design.
First, I paid attention to their sensitivity, which is pretty similar. Philips SHP9500 has 101 dB, while Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X has 100 dB. When it comes to frequency response, the difference is more distinct, as the first appliance works in a range between 12 Hz and 35 kHz and the second one has a range of 5 Hz - 25 kHz. Buying headphones you also have to take into account their impedance. In this case, the device made by Philips has 32 Ohm and the product of Audio-Technica has 48 Ohm.
50 mm neodymium drivers of Philips SHP9500 create an incredibly crisp clarity and the angle of the earpieces fits closely to the ear so that there is increased comfort, stability, and focused sound. But there are also some minuses — highs can be sibilant at times.
The sound signature of the headphones Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X is tuned to be just warm enough to provide a pleasant sound without turning up the bass to annoying levels.
Since both devices have an adjustable headband, they are quite comfortable to use. Unfortunately, none of the headphones fold. They also are not equipped with a microphone which makes talking on the phone impossible.
Let’s talk about the pros. These appliances have a detachable audio cable. Their length is 300 cm. Speaking of weight, Philips SHP9500 is 320 g and it is more than Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X has — 235 g.
